First things first, let’s get acquainted with this portable AC unit. Not only is it incredibly functional, but it also boasts a sleek design reminiscent of a center console in a high-end vehicle. With two adjustable vents, it resembles something you’d find in a Tahoe. These vents can be pointed independently, offering flexibility in directing the cool air where you need it.
What’s in the Box:
When you purchase this portable AC unit, you get more than just the main unit. It comes with a set of handy accessories, including two hoses for exhaust and intake, a power inverter, a drain tube, a hose adapter, and clips for hose management. Additionally, there’s a convenient storage bin atop the unit to keep your remote and other essentials organized.
Setting Up for Use in a Camper Van:
If you plan to use this AC unit in a camper van, you’ll need to create a window exhaust port and intake.
The process is made easy by using carboard and cutting it to size. Use the hoses to cutout the holes and you are good to go! Once you have everything in place, the unit can be installed with the hoses venting out of the window.
Testing in Scorching Heat:
To put this AC unit to through the impossible test, we started in a van that had been baking in 100-degree heat, in the direct sunlight. This was a huge mistake. The surface of the van was 122 degrees and the interior was 112 degrees.
What was the temperature inside the van?
It was approximately 86 degrees, which is significantly cooler. The setup wasn’t ideal either. The hoses weren’t properly blocked off to separate the front and back of the van, and the AC unit wasn’t positioned directly toward the rear, as seen in the first photo in this article.
Results of the Camping Trip:
After a night of running the AC unit, the inside temperature had plummeted to a comfortable 69 degrees while the outside temperature remained at 86 degrees. It was a successful camping trip, but we were determined to push the unit further.

A New Setup for Better Performance:
To further test its capabilities, we set up a new configuration. By adding insulation to the front of the cabin and strategically positioning the unit between the seats, we aimed to maximize its effectiveness. The hoses were routed through a window, allowing for efficient air circulation.
This is how the hoses are setup in case you were wondering. The screw into the inlets pretty easily.
Finally, here is the view form the cabin.
Results in the Upgraded Setup:
The unit’s performance in the upgraded setup was impressive. It quickly cooled down the van, even though the sun was relentless outside. The initial temperature drop was promising, and with added insulation, the van became much more comfortable.
Challenges of Insulation:
However, it’s important to note that the van was not perfectly insulated, and the sun’s heat still made its presence felt. The ceiling, in particular, retained warmth due to the direct sunlight. A great idea would be parking in shade because even with great insulation, the sun is difficult to compete with.
Office Cooling Test:
To further evaluate the unit’s capabilities, we moved it to an office room that was notoriously hotter than the rest of the house. After running the AC unit for a while, the room temperature dropped significantly, showcasing its suitability for personal use in hot spaces.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, this portable AC unit proved to be a valuable asset for combating intense heat. While its performance in a camper van depended on insulation and external conditions, it excelled in cooling down rooms and personal spaces. If you’re seeking relief from scorching temperatures, this unit is worth considering.
