This is the Lincoln Blackwood Lux Truck. Yes, it is a lux truck. In 20002. Quite literally the most luxurious truck for the time. It is basically the Rolex of trucks. Okay, maybe not a Rolex, but a fancy watch.

This beast was marketed in both Mexico and USA for a short period. Only in 2002 in the USA and Mexico marketed the truck from 2002-2003. This was the shortest lived vehicle Lincoln has every produced.  Lincoln then went back into the luxury truck market with the Lincoln Mark LT in 2006 and ended in 2008. Lincoln just couldn’t get anything right here.

Today, we are going to dive into the Lincoln Blackwood and figure out why this ultra-luxury ford f-150 couldn’t stay in production!

Let us start with powertrain, it’s a complicated one.

Coming with only the 5.4l V8 engine that was built to last 300k miles and have been commonly known to last upwards to 500k miles. Of course only if you do the proper maintenance. Which is not a hard thing to do. The v8 5.4L scoots this fat 5,7000lb truck with its 300hp quietly and comfortable with an 8.5 second 0-60, which is adequate with its rivals for the time. Only available in two-wheel drive directing all 300horses to the back of the truck with only a super crew cab configuration. So, not fully usable as a workhorse truck. But it can tow 8,700lbs. That is something.

However, with its lower ride height, two-wheel drive platform, and controlled ride, the truck is made more for the typical civilian.

Here is a brief background of the truck.

It is basically a luxury f150. That is it… Besides the unique body and a few unique interior bits, the rest of the truck is a f-150. Ford only produced 3,356 of these in a 15month period and I can imagine much less of them are driving on the road today, which makes this truck very rare. Costing $52,500 new and being sold in the united stated in 2002 and being sold in Mexico from 2002-2003.  The truck really does appeal to my eyeballs, but it just was not practical. Due to its high price tag for an impractical truck and its limited cargo, Lincoln had to discontinue the production, although Lincoln had hoped for 18,000 sales. Obviously, the public did not want it.

And, just like the Model T, the only color option is gunslinger black.

They are relatively affordable for a rare truck

You can buy one of these sleek Blackwoods right now and they aren’t too expensive. They range all the way down to 7k to 14k dollars for a low mile one. However, id imagine these will go up in value as the years go by. The exterior is lined with some fancy chrome. The front grill and fascia are presentable and looks better than the ford f150, in my opinion. The bumper looks a bit bold with its two fog lights and plastic lining. And, to finish off the exterior a bit, the back of the trunk looks quite nice if I do say so myself. With the name blackwood going across the tailgate and the fancy Lincoln symbol on the truck bed cover. Only thing missing is a dual exhaust.

Baby got back

If you are into the look of a fake rear end, that is lifted and made only for looks, then this truck got some back baby!

Literally, once you open the truck bed with its unique split dutch door setup, that I surprisingly like, it exposes the elevated trunk bed, it is not really a truck bed, I mean, it is, but it is not. that is why I said trunk bed. You get it.

you cannot use the bed of this truck like a typical truck.

First. It has an electric tonneau cover that lifts upwards by a button on the key fob or a ceiling console switch. With that shut, it gives the bed roughly 2 feet high of storage, which really is not all that much. The bed is lined with fancy plastics covered with stainless steel to give it that ultra-luxury watch feel that you get from a watch brand that tries to be high end but is not. Here is one of the kickers, the entire floor of the bed is carpet. Yes, carpet. So very unusable for a truck.  It is basically just a grocery getter with LEDs lining the entire trunk bed.

If this were not 1/3000 trucks driving on the road today, I would rip out all the junk in the trunk and get it ready to be used and abused like a normal truck. Yah know, that’s how we like our trucks.

Jumping into the interior of the Blackwood

It is basically a ford f-150, yet it was made only as the highest trim. With two heated and cooled bucket seats in the front and two back, perforated with nice sleek black leather. The steering wheel is polished with fancy wood and leather. The dash is covered with nice black wood, to give it the high-end feel.

And, there is a good bit of storage in the front and rear consoles as well. There was even an option for a $2000 navigation to be placed in the console, which was a huge leap in tech for the time. But so very outdated today.

Since literally, the entire truck is black from the interior and exterior, Lincoln wanted to take extra measures to protect against the Heat. They threw in some heavy-duty tint and installed a heavy-duty Desert-spec air conditioning unit.

Conclusion

The Lincoln Blackwood is becoming a forgotten dinosaur that no one really liked at the time, but now people are looking back at it and enjoying its novelty. I mean, it is a pretty cool truck. The truck just could not stay in production due to its pricy price tag and its impracticality. Other than that, I could see some sort of high-end businessperson driving one of these around.
